The tall funnels, seven pairs of samson
posts and derricks and the extra bridgework show that this wonderful
photograph of the m.v. Rangitiki was made sometime between
leaving John Brown's yard and before the removal of to sets of posts and
derricks in preparation of he maiden voyage. Considering the
proximity of the little paddlewheel tug or cutter, and that the
Rangitiki appears to be stationary, I surmise that this shot was

Although taken after post maiden voyage
modifications were made, this photograph presents another opportunity to
compare the ship in its very early configuration as shown above, and the
way she appeared throughout the thirties and into the forties.
In my opinion, she started out as a very
stately lady and was transformed into an athletic but elegant young girl. Added 24 February 2006 |
